Marilyn Twomey (Class of 1954) was one of the best players during the early-1950s. Marilyn made varsity in 1952 and was elected co-captain of the team for the 1953-1954 season. Standing at 5’8 ½,” Twomey was noticeably taller than many of the other women she faced. The Miss Recordia called her “one of the most outstanding athletes on this campus” in 1953. “Her agility and speed in hockey and basketball,” teammate Lilian Maluo wrote, “have helped to produce some of the finest team performances that this college has witnessed since its participation in competitive intercollegiate sports. Resourceful, calm, and a great team player, Twomey can be counted on for consistent support, especially under strong competitive pressure.” Twomey also served as the president of the Misericordia Athletic Association and as a co-captain on the field hockey team.
